ABSTRACT

The aim of this conference was to take Turkish students of  the Hotel Management  course at Yasar University to learn the specific vocabulary of food and drink in Spanish.

What I intended to do was to see if there could be some distinctive features between Turkish and Spanish food and drink as the target students belonged to a muslim country, with constraints imposed by the Koran related to food and drink and more specifically spirits, or if in any way,  there could be some similarities despite the limitations above mentioned.

A comparative study between Portuguese Spanish and Turkish gastronomy and beverages was undertaken , before preparing the exercises for the students, because the teacher was Portuguese, teaching Spanish in Turkey, the host country.

Despite their culture and religious believes, I became aware of some similarities not only in the terms of food food and drink, probably due to the Portuguese presence in Turkey,  beginning at the time of Crusades, but also in some cooking methods.

In the end of this experiment students have even cooked some Portuguese and Spanish recipes and prepared drinks with Turkish ingredients: this is what I call a truly intercultural fusion cuisine!
