On May 31, 2023, the book “A arte saiu à rua: A tutela jurídica do graffiti”, coordinated by Raquel Guimarães and Regina Redinha (FDUP), and published by Editora d’Ideias, was launched. The event took place at Casa Comum – Reitoria da Universidade do Porto. The book launch included a panel discussion with the participation of Fátima Vieira, Jorge Sobrado, Rafi Die Erste, Godmess, Miguel Januário, António Monteiro de Oliveira and Maria Raquel Guimarães, in an open conversation about this art form, its relevance and legal component.
The book has an Introduction by António Monteiro de Oliveira, researcher at the Centre for Intercultural Studies (CEI), and chapters by CEI researchers Clara Sarmento, ” Ain’t that illegal? : Street art as academic project, media topic and consumer good” (pp. 273-303) and Luísa Silva, “Cultural synergies around street art for the social and economic progress of communities” (pp. 363 – 395).
This work aims to answer some questions of street art in various fields of law, not neglecting its sociological, cultural, criminological and economic approach, since graffiti is often perceived as a crime/illicit act, however, it is still considered a huge and plural artistic movement globally.
