ABSTRACT
The purpose of this presentation is to give a brief overview on selected aspects of Linguistic Politeness. The discussion stresses the significance of the use of situationally appropriate language in relevant contexts of communication. The talk examines two theories, i.e. the Linguistic Politeness Principle theory and the Interpersonal Maxim theory- two aspects underlying the Linguistic Politeness phenomenon. The presentation is supported by analysis of examples that demonstrate the use of the Linguistic Politeness in authentic contexts of intercultural communication.
