This past December 12th, Sara Cerqueira Pascoal, researcher at the Center for Intercultural Studies (CEI), gave the plenary lecture “Tourism communication strategies in the post-normal: emerging technologies and the crisis of Western hospitality” as guest keynote speaker at the International Conference on Communication, Information and Tourism – ICCITour 2024, which took place at the Lamego School of Technology and Management of the Polytechnic Institute of Viseu.
The tourism sector is today supported by several platforms capable of disseminating products, services and destinations in a way that has never been seen before. Multiple platforms connect and promote interactions, exchange information and facilitate centralized access to useful information for both parties. This scenario empowers tourists who are now much more informed and active, both in their search for information and in their decision-making. In this context, communication and information have become two essential variables in the promotion of a service, purpose or tourist destination. In the light of these circumstances, research and scientific production, and expressly the sharing of the results of such research, are gaining in value. Considering this context, the ICCITour – International Conference on Communication, Information and Tourism was created with the aim of teachers and researchers from the areas involved sharing knowledge that can contribute to broadening knowledge about communication and information and tourism.
