Associate Director, Gender, Sexuality & Women's Studies Program

The Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies Program (GSWS) in the School of Arts and Sciences at the University of Pennsylvania seeks an Associate Director. The Associate Director works closely with the Associate Director of the Alice Paul Center for Research on Gender, Sexuality, and Women (APC) and with the Director of GSWS/APC. The Associate Director oversees the daily operations of the Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies Program including: serving as Undergraduate Chair; recruiting and advising majors and minors; working to expand the major and build a strong GSWS community; ensuring there is a robust selection of GSWS-specific and cross-listed courses; and teaching two undergraduate GSWS courses per year. The Associate Director also oversees the GSWS Graduate Program, including: administering the Graduate Certificate program; helping organize graduate student events; ensuring there is a robust selection of GSWS graduate seminars. The Associate Director will also be responsible for helping to support and expand the number of Penn faculty teaching in the area of GSWS by creating pedagogical resources, supporting course development activities, and faculty mentoring; and to cultivate a strong alumni network, including programming and resources for GSWS alumni. The Associate Director will also assist in the general programming and administration of the GSWS Program and, where appropriate, the APC. This is not a tenure-track faculty position, but an administrative position with teaching responsibilities.

Assistant Professor of U.S. Women's History

he George Washington University Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies (WGSS) Program and the History Department invite applications for a full-time tenure-track joint position in United States Women’s History at the rank of beginning to advanced Assistant Professor to begin as early as fall 2017. The individual will help shape a strong WGSS program, while contributing to the U.S. History concentration in the History Department. Applicants will work on intersectional projects addressing the histories of racialized women in the 20th century United States and be able to teach feminist and/or critical race theory. The successful candidate will demonstrate an active research agenda, teach undergraduate survey courses in US Women’s History, teach graduate courses, and complement existing research and teaching strengths in global feminisms and intersectionality.
Applicants must have completed a PhD in history, Women’s and Gender Studies, or a closely related field by the date of appointment. Applicants must have a clear research agenda demonstrated by publications, works in progress, as well as promise of excellence in teaching.

Assistant Professor - Diaspora Studies, Human Rights, and Transnational Migration

Global and Intercultural Studies: Assistant Professor of Diaspora Studies, Human Rights, and Transnational Migration, focus on migration and mobility to teach introductory courses in the Department of Global and Intercultural Studies, in addition to advanced courses in the candidate’s area of specialization; advise students; maintain an active research agenda; and provide service to the institution.
The successful candidate will also contribute to some of the department’s other academic programs: Asian/Asian-American Studies; American Studies; Black World Studies; Latin American, Latino/a, and Caribbean Studies; International Studies; and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies.
Require: Ph.D. in one of the following: anthropology, economics, ethnic studies, gender studies, history, geography, literary studies, political science, philosophy, religion, interdisciplinary areas or related field by December 31, 2016 for re-appointment to second year. Strong candidates will be scholars with interdisciplinary teaching and research interests in the global forces and frameworks undergirding migration and mobility. Strong candidates also will be scholars whose work engages transnational and diaspora studies broadly defined, with an emphasis on the ways in which race, ethnicity, and/or gender have shaped the conditions of human migration, displacement, and settlement and impacted human rights issues. ONE YEAR VISITING POSITION – WOMEN’S, GENDER, AND SEXUALITY STUDIES

The Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program invites applications for a one-year visiting assistant professor of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies to begin in August 2017. The successful candidate will teach Introductory Women’s Gender, and Sexuality Studies, feminist methodologies, and an upper-level WGSS courses in the candidate’s specialty. Preference will be given to candidates who can teach in the areas of Transnational Feminism and/or Women of Color Feminism. The teaching load is 3-3, which will include advising senior Independent Study thesis projects. Candidates should hold a Ph.D. or be ABD in Women’s/Gender/Sexuality/Feminist Studies (WGSFS) at the time of appointment, or hold a degree in another field with a graduate certificate or significant interdisciplinary training in WGSFS. Prior teaching is desirable and applicants should provide evidence of their ability to teach introductory and upper-level courses in WGSS. We particularly encourage applications from candidates whose work focuses on an innovative and rigorous interdisciplinary approach to teaching about the Global South and/or Indigeneity.
