Happiness at Work, Presenteeism, Meaningful WorkAbstract
Presenteeism and Happiness at Work are two themes that have gained interest in management literature, for its importance to people’s and organizations’ health. However, there’s no literature studying the relationship between the two. Thus, it’s important to know the antecedents (in this case, Meaningful Work) and the relationship that the variables have with each other. To achieve this need, a questionnaire was applied to 132 people belonging to the Portuguese employed population. The results of the study indicate that Meaningful Work has a positive relation with Presenteeism and Happiness at Work. However, Presenteeism doesn’t have a mediating effect on the relation between Meaningful Work and Happiness at Work. Regarding demographic variables, age has a relation with Meaningful Work and Presenteeism, schooling has a relation with Meaningful Work, and experience has a relation with Presenteeism.
