Jorge Sequeira's testimonial on ISCAP website
For 15 days I could experience new cultures, six different countries gathered in a room with a common aim: to successfully carry out a program of the European Union. In a meeting with future translators and interpreters, very interesting projects were accomplished. Through intercultural work and experiences, we obtained a fundamental knowledge for a professional in this field by doing daily work directly related with the translation but in a legal field.
This experience allowed me not only to relive my previous experience of mobility (also in Romania) but, also, to have a new vision concerning the profession of translator/interpreter in the legal area. With this experience, I got to see further career alternatives and to understand some of the main difficulties and problems faced by translators and interpreters in the area of Law. That is why I consider that it was very profitable for my evolution as a student of this area. Jorge Sequeira
The IP at ISCAP provided an excellent opportunity to deepen our knowledge into the field of law as well as jurisdictional interpreting and translation. Furthermore we got to know a lot of different people from different countries and managed the challenges of the various exercises together so that my English improved pretty much. All in all it was a great experience, apart from the rainy weather. Rebecca Rieper
These fifteen days in Romania were without a doubt an unforgettable experience. What I liked most was, undoubtedly, the multicultural interaction with both colleagues and teachers. In terms of learning it was very interesting, despite some conferences that didn't provide us with new information. But that also shows that when we left Portugal to integrate this group, we already had preparation and knowledge. The host country was also a good surprise, Romania always fascinated me and I loved being there and learning more about its history and culture. It is an experience I would strongly recommend! Piedalīšanās Intensīvajā programmā man bija piedzīvojums, kurš sniedza neaizmirstamas emocijas, jaunus lieliskus draugus un, protams, juridiskās franču valodas zināšanu uzlabošanos. Lieliska iespēja, kuru iesaku izmantot ikvienam! Sandija Skudra
I considered the experience in Portugal as being a chance in a lifetime. The IP provides students with rich experiences and I have grown a lot after the two amazing weeks spent in Porto. The personal development in my case exceeded the professional one. What I mean is that I became more open to the fact that people are different and that we have to be open minded. It was extremely interesting observing different cultures and remarking that my way of thinking is not always the best or what is normal to me is not normal to another student from another country. We were all so different and yet we managed to get along perfectly, I made a lot of friends and I simply loved being part of this project. In terms of professional development I definitely learned a lot about the different legal systems that exist and I of course became aware of the fact that translating and interpreting are hard jobs which require really well defined skills, especially when talking about the legal field. I would definitely repeat this amazing experience!
Apart from all the information and training I acquired throughout this IP, the most important thing for me was the interaction. This interaction was always excellent, between future translators and interpreters of several nationalities. The experience of sharing a conversation in 4 or 5 different languages without that being a problem was extraordinary. Alexandra Guimarães
There is a reason why this programme is called intensive. During two weeks you manage to learn language better, get acquainted with architecture, culture and the way of living in different country, meet new friends and acquaintances and most important – get lifetime experience in translation and knowledge in new professional fields of legal translation and court interpreting.
The two week program at ISCAP in Porto, Portugal was a great opportunity not only to deepen my knowledge of German law but also to learn about the different law systems in the European Union, the role of the interpreters and the translators. The relation to current topics such as the immigration waves from Africa and their legal status in Europe underlined the importance of international communication within the European Union. Working in multinational and multilingual groups was a fun challenge. Mirjam Marschall
Lena Zamfirache
I would like to start by saying that my participation to IP influenced me not only at an educational level, but also at a social one. The knowledge I gather through this program was really useful, as a matter of fact, a few weeks back, I had a translation to make where the information about the judicial system in France was indeed helpful. I consider that through the presentations we made, I developed my public-speaking skills and I had the chance to practice a skill that we all encounter nowadays frequently, namely teamwork. I appreciate the fact that I made very good acquaintances, with whom I keep in touch quite often. It was an incredible experience and I’m glad that I had the chance to participate. Roxana Ionescu
